Laptop stuck on startup repair

I just replaced my laptop's hard drive with a hard drive of another laptop. I guess my move worked but the problem this time is that the screen is stuck on startup repair. It's been about 4 hours now and nothing's changed. I've heard stories that skipping it would cause hard drive problems. I don't really think it would do that much. But can somebody please tell me how to skip that part?

(I'm also planning on installing linux/ubuntu on my hard drive.)

you cant use a different windows configured harddrive on another laptop - the drivers will be setup for the orginal laptop and so you will need to re-install windows onto the new harddrive

do you have a recovery DVD or USB drive for the laptop that you are trying to put the new harddrive into ?
