 My 4 year old Gateway LT will lose aprox 30 minutes on the clock at random times. It will maintain accurate time for several days then drop 30 minutes in a very short while. Is this indicative of a weak CMOS battery or some other problem?

Most laptops do have a CMOS battery, and 4 years sounds like about the useful life. That's certainly the first thing I'd check...
