    can anyone help me?

    I have a packard bell easynote f5280hr...

When i try to run it from battery it pretty much switches off straight away! i have been on the packard bell site and it says that its a problem with the bios. So i updated the bios using the link from this page http://www.elf.co.uk/Tech Support1.htm but it hasnt made any difference!

anyone got any ideas to why this is? the battery is fully charged...

How old is it? Laptop batteries don't last forever.

You didn't say how old that laptop is, but its battery won't last forever. My HP laptop is 4-1/2 years and will only run about 10 minutes on battery power.

Not using the battery is worse then using it. But it can also be the circuit that charges the battery is shot.

And why did you not complain if its never worked?!?!?!? DO you have any idea what the costs are of repairing laptops or buying parts are after warranty?

It can say the same thing with a dead/faulty battery or faulty circuit so that means next to nothing.

If the battery has an internal "high resistance" in one cell, then it will show as fully charged. But the moment you try to draw power, the laptop will shut down, as the battery pack simply cannot deliver any useful current through the high resistance cell.

The laptop can only monitor the battery pack voltage when assessing the battery as being charged or not. A high resistance cell will show the normal voltage as it's not under load at that time.
