This machine was connecting just fine wirelessly until yesterday. Toshiba satellite, xp home w/ sp2, 512 ram, 1.6ghz, Through toshiba pcx cable modem, to linksys router for wireless.

I took the linksys out of the equation, and ran direct into the cable modem through the ethernet port. I unplugged modem, for a while and plugged back in and restarted machine. I called cable company to confirm that the modem is connecting, and it is. I re-installed nic drivers on the ethernet card. In network connections, it is saying that the ethernet is connected and firewalled. Zone alarm firewall. TCP/IP set to detect automatically. Yet this machine will still not connect to the internet. Browser says cannot find server.

All advice greatly appreciated!

I pinged yahoo, and got a response. Now as it turns out, there is just a problem with internet explorer.. I installed firefox and that browser is working perfectly. How to fix internet explorer?

Make sure your DNS server IP is in the Zone Alarm > Zones > Trusted.

1. Go to Run type in command , hit 'ok', and type ipconfig /all then press enter. In the returned data list will be a line DNS and DHCP Servers with the IP address(s) listed out to the side.
2. In ZA on your machine on the Firewall>Zones tab click Add and then select IP Address. Make sure the Zone is set to Trusted.
3. Click OK and then Apply and see if that works to fix it..
