Laptop will not start up!!

I have a dell 1525 2 weeks old!
tried to start up today but ended up with a black screen, but my curser could be seen.
tried to start in safe mode:mad:
tried to do a system restore:mad:
i think i have been hyjacked, as there are a couple of shortcuts to porn websites!!:eek:

All above failed
It has Mcafee installed (30 day trial)
All help appriciated!

Hiya

Are you still having this problem? If so, can we see a HijackThis log:

Click here to download HJTInstall.exe
  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
  • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

There's a couple of things I'm curious about, so lets try this first:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
  • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
  • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply.
Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediatly.

Also, post a fresh HijackThis log as well :)

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
    (Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Hi there, i have run the sdfix.exe i started in safe mode, found the folder, but when i run the .bat file, it was checked by spybot but nothing else happened? so it did not prompt me on the cleanup process!

Hmm, didn't see Spybot on the list. Looks like Tea-Timer may be stopping it.

Scroll down on the below list to look for SPYBOT TEATIMER

  • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
  • Remember to re-enable the protection again afterwards before connecting to the Internet.


Then, try SDFix again.

Hi there, need help again, the Dell1525 has gone blue screen again! it states:-
A problem has been detected and window has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

Lots more writing!!!

Technical information

It will not:-

start to last know good configuration.

It say sthat some new hardware or software has caused this problem but we have not loaded any in the past week, and it was working up to last night.

You said in your first post that the laptop was two weeks old. It should still be under warranty.

Dell say it is a software problem, and i only have 30 days warranty with the softeware, 12 months warranty with hardware. As it was fixed my 30 days have now elapsed.

Be sure to tell them that software problems are USUALLY NOT THE CAUSE of these issues. Be firm. If you have to, do a complete system restore back to factory settings, and go from there. My bet is on hardware, not software.
