Go into device manager. Do you see any red x's? particularly on network adapters.

Hit the windows logo key + R. A run box will appear. In it, type cmd and press enter. In the black box that appears, type ipconfig/all and press enter. Copy the results into this form.

Back in device manager under network adapters, can you provide a screenshot or list the information under network adapters.

Make sure your wireless radio is turned on. Usually, there is a button or switch on the laptop.

Have you tried updating to the latest drivers? If not, I would do so.

Also, when did this problem start occurring? It would be possible to do a system restore to a point when it was working to get it working again.

Alright let's try the system restore. Go to the start icon in the bottom left hand corner. In the search bar, type system restore and select it as it comes up. The first screen you can just select next. Then, you will see all the restore points you can restore to. Find one that has a date before this issue occurred. There should be one right before you updated the antivirus. If not, go back farther. You can select the show more restore points button to see more. To not go back farther than you need to though.

If this doesn't work, disable your antivirus and see if the problem goes away. I have seen lots of problems caused by antivirus, typically norton, kaspersky, and others.

You were asked to verify that the wireless switch was turned on, and you responded with a comment about FN-F8 or some such...

There should be an actual switch, I think it should be on the front edge of that machine? A tiny slide switch that can be hard to notice unless you actually tip the machine up to look at the front edge in a good light. Might have a wireless antenna symbol beside it. Make sure that this did not accidentally get turned off.
