I've been lurking here for a while and learned a LOT from this forum. I have not had any problems worthy of posting til now. I have tried repeatedly to download the new windows updates posted today with no success. I get all the way to the "download and install" window then nothing. Cancelling the download locks up the computer and requires a reboot. Any ideas would be most welcome. I've turned off microsoft anti spyware and Spybot resident-no change. Thank you

Found the bits service wouldn't start. Search found that problem was related to a recent uninstall of Symantec. Found a fix that solved the problem.

Start- Run and type each entry below and hit enter:
    regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
    regsvr32 jscript.dll
    regsvr32 vbscript.dll
    regsvr32 msxml.dll
And in an attempt to fix possible problems with security providers I
    also did the following:
    regsvr32 softpub.dll
    regsvr32 wintrust.dll
    regsvr32 initpki.dll
    regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
