    Hello everyone,
I'm a mature student who is doing a networking project at the end of my degree and need a matter regarding leased lines cleared up ss part of a proposal for a fictional company network upgrade.d

The company has five sites which will connect by a leased line to one central site HQ (essentially a star topology) and each site will have a number of VLANs setup for each indvidual department. The VLANs will be given contiguous private class B IP subnets.
There is a single internet connection located at the central site, so any traffic (e-mail and web browsing) that is required by any other site to outside of the company must go through the central HQ to get out of the network.
The question is, can the leased lines which connect each site to the central HQ be given a private class of IP address, or do they need a legitimate IP provided by an ISP?

I know that leased lines are said to be 'private' but as they outside of the LAN I imagined they would need a proper class of IP. I just need to know for certain.

    Hope you can help.

    Ahmi

Since you have a dedicated leased line, you can put in any IP addressing you want to include routeable addresses but of course this wouldn't be adviseable.
