i downloaded the original version of this game (c. 1987), which opens as an ms-dos application. the text windows are an illegible mess of pixels, but everything else is fine. any ideas how this might be fixed?

What operating system are you running?

Also, you downloaded it? Meaning you installed it from a disk, right? And not illegally obtained it from the internet?

Wellm since it's an old, old game, I'm surprised you even got it to run....XP is horrible with older games, especially DOS-based ones. Anyway, find the main program executable, right-click it, hit Properties, then hit Compatability, and select COmpatability mode, and try each one to see if it works. If that doesn't help, there's probably not much else you can do.
