OK new to this. Sister in law wants to connect her LG Xenon phone to her new laptop so as to be able to get internet at her mothers house who does not have internet connection. Uses ATT as a carrier.

What equipment is needed to do this, and what are the exact steps to do this?

    Help appreciated.

Are there any other reasonable options for getting internet while she is over at her mothers house for about 2 hours or so a day?

She needs to contact AT&T to add a tethering plan if the phone supports it. It will cost $20-$50 a month depending on how much bandwidth she wants to pay for. Virgin Mobile offers pre-paid wireless broadband. Whether or not that's an option depends on coverage, useage, how much she wants to pay, etc.
