    Hi,
    I recently purchased this router and set it up in my dorm room at college. It worked fine for a month or two, and then it stopped letting me connect wirelessly. Then I changed it to WPA encryption, and for some reason, it started working again. Then a week or so later, it stopped again. This time, I made it a hidden network and upgraded the firmware. And since then it worked, but now it is starting to go on and off again, where I just power cycle it a few times until it works. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could fix this to make it more reliable and consistent? If so it would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks

    it may be getting old and need replacing

    A full factory reset and reset up may help

    you could try taking the secruity off completely and see if that improves (as a test,clearly you would want secruity on - although you maybe able to use MAC secruity )

    also changing channels may help - use ch 1 or 6 or 11

    so we can see the channels other wireless networks are using
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Download and install
    http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php

    Then run the program and post a screen shot of the program running
    To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
    To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

    It's definitely not getting old, it's one of the newer models and I got it in October. I have tried resetting it multiple times and that's usually my next step when power cycling doesn't work so it isn't that. I'm already using channel 11 since I am in a dorm and there are other routers that could be interfering. And I doubt unsecured would work because in the past after I reset it, I've just tried connecting to the unsecured network and I can't even get a local connection.

    I can't really test anything right now because it is working, but the next time it stops working I'll try going down to channel 1 and if that doesn't work I'll give unsecured a try, but in the mean time if anyone has other suggestions please let me know.

    Downloading Xirrus now, it takes a while on the school network

    use Xirrus to see what other channels are in use

    I assume every one on the router is unable to connect - just checking its not the PC

    Whats the status of the lights when it disconnects ?

    when it disconnects - try pinging the default gateway and internet

    {ipconfig /all}
    We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all

    -> Start > run {search bar in Vista} > cmd > ipconfig /all
    post back the results here

    TWO Methods to do that - if you cannot access the internet with PC, then use method 2 to copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

    Method ONE -------------------------------------------------------------
    start > run {search bar in Vista} > cmd > ipconfig /all

    rightclick in the box
    select all
    enter
    control key + C key - to copy
    then reply here and
    control key + V to paste

    Method TWO -------------------------------------------------------------

    Start> Run {search bar in Vista}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

    IPCONFIG /ALL >C:\RESULT.TXT

    Open C:\RESULT.TXT with Notepad and copy/paste the entire results here.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    {Ping Tests}
    Start> Run {search bar in Vista}> CMD to open a DOS window and type:

    Ping the default gateway shown in above ipconfig /all
    Post back the results

    Ping google.com
    Post back the results

    rightclick in the box
    select all
    enter
    control key + C key - to copy
    then reply here and
    control key + V to paste

    Ping 209.191.93.53
    post back results

    It's not the PC, we have tried 3 different ones and none can connect. I am the only one on channel 11 in range as you can see by the screenshot, when it disconnects none of the status lights change.
    I will get you the pings the next time it disconnects, but here is the ipconfig and the screenshot:

    Do you want me to run the tests when I'm manually disconnected or when I CAN'T connect?
