I have noticed that my Lite-On CD-R\RW will not open sometimes. I press the button on the CD-Rom and I get no response. I go into my computer, right click on the drive in question and select "Eject". No response. If I restart/Log out of windows it works fine. This only happens when a disk is in the drive.

If you are using InCD or DirectCD software this is not uncommon. The drive is treated as non-removeable in some cases.

Try removing any such software and see if the problem persists?

direct cd is older roxio software. It is the Packet writing program that allows you to write dorectly to the disk with out opening your burner software. you do not say which version of Windows you are using. If it is WinXP then SP1 or later comes with burner software integral. And that means that it also has Packet writing software installed.

Does anyone know how to turn off packet writing in XP SP2? Would this affect my drive even if a regular disk is in the drive?

XP does not have any native "packet writing" to my knowledge, with or without SP2.

If it does, some link attesting to that would be good....

It certainly sounds like some software has taken "ownership" of the CD.

Try uninstalling the drive in Device Manager, then rebooting and letting XP reinstall it?

    Uninstalled Driver, Restarted Windows...
Windows didnt even flinch, acted like the drivers where already installed.

Looks like that worked, but only time will tell if it starts up again ;)

    Thanx for your help
