    Hello.
I am experienncing problems with my Lite-on DVDRW SHM-165P6S device.
2 days ago, I downloaded a movie (1 Gb) and decided to write it into Verbatim x16 Advanced Azo+ dvd-r. Burn process started, went for 2% and then I was informed that "burn process failed".
    My actions:
    1) upgraded firmware from manufacturer's site. Tried to burn dvd - nothing
    2) asked Verbatim's and Lite-on's support - no answer for 4 days.
    3) ran disk defrag
    4) checked for spyware (Lavasoft Adaware)
    5) ran virus scan (Nod32)
    6) checked for device conflicts: no conflicts in device manager.
7- i succeeded in writing to Acme dvd+r x16, but on my PC it shows no content.

I use Nero 6 Ultra ed. for cd/dvd burning, Windows XP professional, 1,80 Gz processor, 256 RAM.
What went wrong? What should I do?

What was the burning speed that you have set when burning it?

Well the verbatim you have mention has the maximum capacity for burning up to 16X only...so burning at the higher rate could cause for burning failure. Also, in burning large files it is nt adviseable to burn it on high speed mostly to be sure that the file will be burn successfully set the the burning speed at around 4X to 8X. It may take awhile but it will be the surest way to burn successfully.

Aborted virus scan: it scaned 70% and found nothing.
Tried to burn music dvd (58 megs of pop).
Used "determine maximum speed" otion - it showed x12.
Burn process went smoothly untill song #8. Then it freezes on 31%, later Nero shows process status - "Lead in" and legendary messaeg "Burn process failed at x12".
I'm giving up. There seem to be absolutely no solution.

Base on the error you got it failed to burn at 12x...it means that Nero unable to transfer the files at that speed. Try not using the maximum burn speed, try to input to burn at 4x or 8x as I have mention earlier. :D

Problem solved:installed some lame software (Oront Burning Kit 2) and burned DVD.
I think I need to upgrade Nero - or use alternate software
