By mistake, the power plug was pulled on the computer without it being shut down first. Now it won't reboot to windows without F8 to safe mode. I tried to restore the system right off the bat but it didn't work.. said it did.. but it said it in safe mode after i had to use the F8 key again to get there. If i don't do anything it will start to boot up... i'll see the compac display and then the Win XP splash page then it goes black.. and then a blue flash and it starts to reboot all over again...ad infinitum. I have tried to reinstall Win XP PRO but i can't get it to work. It is a bootable disk but it won't boot from it. I downloaded the Boot Disk for floppies off the Microsoft web site... made all 6 of them.. tried to use them and got to the third disk when it told me the ACPI file was corrupt and it stopped loading. I'm at a loss. Do i have to live life in safe mode now??..sigh...it's so unlike me...
    is there help out there?

Have you tried getting into Bios and changing the boot order to the CD-Rom first and then put the disk in and restart.

Get to Bios tapping DEL or F1 or F2 immediately on start up.

i'll try that.. thank you. one other thing though as long as i might have your attention... unless i unplug the machine from the power supply it will start itself up from an off state... like a ghost machine. it never did that before the plug was pulled... any significance you think?
