hi, i own a compaq presario cq5500y pc that is (regretably) still running windows 7. it's having issues with its local area connection driver. i have followed all of the steps that windows help provided me, but almost all of them require me to connect to the internet... which is the only thing i can't do right now. i am unable to perform/check for updates for this reason, and while it tells me that my driver is up to date, this can't be true, as:

a.) this pc is horribly outdated
b.) there wouldn't be an issue if it were up to date

i would attempt to manually install the new driver from compaq, but this, again, requires me to connect to the internet. i do not own any kind of usb flash drive, and my phone does not recognize my computer as a computer, and so i can't try to do usb tethering. am i just out of options? or is there something else i could try?

You may want to buy a USB wireless connector and your problem will be solved quickly. You can find much cheaper ones if you browse either ebay or amazon depending on how much you want to spend. I have an old laptop with Windows XP with no wireless and with this USB I can connect wirelessly thru internet where available.
The second option is to make a fresh install of Windows 7 with drivers for your computer.
Third option is if you have a spare HDD remove the c drive in your computer and replace it with the spare one and try to see if you can install Windows 10 in it. If it won't install then you can swap back the old HDD again to your computer.
