OK I originally posted here, but was sent over to Viruses/Malware, and now I've been sent back. SweetTech spent some time looking through my problem, and is now thinking this is an internet issue and not malware related. So he sent me here (I've been malware cleared).

Bottom line is, I can get on my local internet (file server), and ping computers in my local network (other buildings, across town), but I cannot ping google or CNN, and cannot get to the web with Firefox, IE, and Thunderbird isn't working either. I am not running a proxy server, at least as noted by my LAN settings in internet options, or in Firefox options.

the whole thread is here: http://forums.techguy.org/virus-oth...rnet-not-working-after-virus.html#post7493782

I will post the last post I sent to him regarding the internet issues, which was posted in response to him requesting I run a google ping script. here is SweetTech's request, followed by my response:

Please try the following:

Reset TCP/IP Properties

First:

* Go to
Start -> Control Panel -> Double click on Network Connections.
* Right click on your default connection (usually Local Area Connection or Wireless Network Connection) and select Properties.

* Select the
General tab.
* Double click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).

Under
General tab:

- Select "
Obtain an IP address automatically".
- Select "Obtain DNS server address automatically".

* Click
OK twice to save the settings.
* Reboot if you had to change any setting.

Next:

* Go to
start > Run copy/paste the contents of the code box excluding "code" in the run box and click OK.

Code:
cmd /c (ipconfig /all&nslookup google.com&ping -n 2 google.com&route print) >log.txt&log.txt&del log.txt

A command window opens. Wait until a log.txt file opens.

* Please
copy/paste the log file in your reply.

MY RESPONSE
OK here you go. Just so you know, I am on a static IP, so using automatic settings will not work to get me online. I took the liberty of running the script with my static numnbers as well (I x'd out my personal numbers). But that didn't work either. HOWEVER, I will note that I can ping a computer that is local in my network - in another building - did not create a log file tho. So my local network is working, but the big one is not, since I also tried pinging the CNN.com DNS number ( 157.166.226.26), and got nothing. This a DNS lookup issue???

on a side note, i don not remember having to restart after changing my ip settings before.

I am thinking this is an internet issue, since 4 different software programs can find no trace of the virus, and I my internet is working, just my browsers are not, so that makes me think some file got corrupted. Just doesnt seem like I should need to reinstall my whole system. this seems like it should be an easy network fix(?), but clearly it isn't...
thanks
g

If you are going to practice typing X or otherwise obscure information that may help us help you please do not respond at all to my post. To be clear, I want to see the IP addresses.

What's with the WINS servers?

For each ping designation <...> please substitute the appropriate IP address.

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following commands:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

ping <Default gateway>

ping <1st DNS server>

ping 209.191.122.70

ping yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.
