Wanted to know if anyone knew where the lcd inverter was located? Normally inverters are located at the base of the lcd screen, but whith this particular model Dell it's not attached to the bottom base part of the screen. I have the replacement part already, checked out the service manual online but no info regarding the inverter. If anyone has any knowledge on this to share, I'd sincerely appreciate it.
AFAIK E5520 uses LED backlit screen so it doesn't need an inverter like CCFL backlit screens do. If your Dell's screen shows image but doesn't light up then mostly likely the LED strip has failed.
I had a feeling about that, because I know that not all LCD screen are built the same. However the backlight is fine just no image. I think I'm going to inform my friend to buy the replacement screen. Thanks I appreciate the info.
It may not be a faulty screen, try to get your friend to connect a monitor to the laptop, if the monitor doesn't show a display the fault could be a failed graphics chip on the motherboard.
AFAIK E5520 doesn't have a dedicated GPU option like E6520 do.
