Whenever I am in Windows explorer I notice a few file folders that are just a long string of letters and numbers. When I click on it, a subfolder named "sp2" comes up. When I click on that, it tells me it is inaccessible.
    What is it?

No, I have not upgraded to service pack 2. At least, not that I'm aware of. My system info shows I have service pack 1.

If these have $ in-front and after the numbers they are from installation of programs and what I do with them is archive them to a CD-R and then delete just those files with the $ before and after. They can be deleted.

No, they are not bracketed by "$". Are the files bracketed by $ temporary files?
