Can anyone recommend a free software/program to download that can make my computer talk to me. Sounds stupid, but is there such a program that I can download so that say, when I first turn my computer on, it will greet me with something like, "Welcome Mr. "So and So" and other cool things? For all I know, there is no program out there like that, but I was just wondering. Any input/ideas would be appreciated.

You got me thinking as well. What I found was...

type in what you want it to say save the file. then go to start then control panel then sounds/speech and audio Device then click change the sound scheme. then click on (example) windows log off and use your sound you just made and your done

I have not tested this , mybe later I too think this would be cool

If you have a microphone hooked up to your computer then you can record anything you want to say and have it played at startup. You can also download free sounds and voice clips from movies and have them played .It's easy to change sounds.
Open control panel>sounds and audio devices>sounds and you can add a sound or change a sound when performing a certain task.
I don't think I have an original/default sound running. My shutdown sound for instance is a toilet flushing, just as an example.
You can download sounds as wave files from many free sites.
