Hi all,
I am looking for a metal case router (wireless 802.11b with 4 port switch and at least NAT, but would like SPI, MAC and other security features if possible). Many of them are flimsy plastic and I want a better quality wireless router than that. Also some of them have a strong plastic odor that gives me a headache. Sure they will outgass in time, but I prefer not to breathe that if I can advoid it. Most product descriptions don't list what the case is made of. Any assistance is apprecated.

I am not aware of any, and I have worked with most of the routers that are intended for homes and small offices.

You could go with Cisco.

Actually, I am sitting here looking at this dead Belkin, that failed to survive a lightning strike, and it has a metal chassis and a metal-lined plastic cover. Close as you're going to get, I think.

FWIW, the smell is normally the circuitry and not the case. I don't think that a metal case will necessarily make it a better router. FWIW, I have an old Gigafast 4 port wired router in my closet that's all metal, it's the last one I've seen...

True somtimes it is the circuitry, but often it seems to be a certain type of plastic. I suspect it is flame retartant due to the particular smell (and never seems to fully outgass). But of course I can't be certain.

Well thanks for the feedback, I will see if I can find a belkin or a gigafast. And yes I know the metal case may not make it the best router, I would still much prefer a metal if I can get it.
