I am a linksys guy myself...i wouldnt hesitate in buying another one..my current one has been going for years.
When you say it died...does that mean no lights?
You will get alot of different recommendations while asking about a router...many people seem to have trouble getting started with a belkin.

the only one i can find is Firmware Version: 1.0.04 and thats whats on it now.

i was looking at the settings and noticed that the SPI Firewall Protection is enabled. does that mean i have 2 firewalls up. since the vista firewall is on to? if so is that good or not?

i was thinking of getting this one. when i make my mind up. whats the different s between N and G routers

N is newer technology that g...longer distance and more speed...G will still outdo the speed the Internet providers we have now so it will be far from being a bottle neck.
The router you shown in the first is the same model I have..tried and true,,been around for ages.
I use 3 PCs and a wireless printer here at the house with it...I keep it on 24 hours a day and it seldom gets a reboot,
As far as the firewall The windows firewall and router firewall are ok running at the same time
Some people disable SPI for certain games and aps etc...you will still have a firewall just not as advanced..you can try disabling it to see if you have an improvement.

Have you tried moving your current router?...a few inches one way or the other...they are usually jammed in around other equipment and moving a few inches can sometimes solve a problem
