OK, here we go again with this "who is the best web host" thing, but here's what I'm looking for:(the usual I guess)

-minimum downtime
-24/7 support (no red tape)
-lots of website tools
-support for alot of scripts
-NO ADS!!!!!
-FTP access
-instant upgrades(packages)

I just plan to start out with a personal/hobby/whatever site, but want to be able to upgrade at any time to a more serious site. I plan to put downloads,games,video,sound,and interactive content on it. It's just something I want to be able to evolve in my spare time at home and on the road.I will get a domain name(any good places would be appreciated). I plan to write all the code except for adding scripts,so no templates are required(although I would like to see a template that isnt from a kindergardener's desk :).

So, there it is.

Any good ideas/experiences/tips?

I got and parked my domain name at GoDaddy.com . While I use my ISP ( Comcast )for web hosting , I started with FreeWebs . They provide free hosting and options ( at a cost ) a la carte depending on your needs. I'm sure others have opinions as well.

Even better, this is an awesome webhost. i have been with them for 4 years, and my site has been down once for about ten minutes, and it was right back up when I emailed them.

They are only 4.95 /mo for a shared windows 2003 server. They offer unlimited data transfers, 100 mb webspace, unlimited sub domain names, free online webpage builder software, and much much more!

Check them out here;
