Hi, I would appreciate any help you can offer with the following problem I am experiencing.

I have a Toshiba laptop running Vista Home Premium, and I am using a Hutchison 3G USB Broadband Modem. I have used it for nearly a year with no problems until recently.

Basically, I connect to the internet via the usb modem and all is fine for a approx 7-10 minutes, then I am unable to browse pages and all internet applications (msn, skype) fail. The first time this happened I clicked the modem's icon to see if I was still connected. It showed that I was connected and that I was still sending data (I could see the MB figure rising), but the figure showing the amount of data I was receiving had stopped climbing. I disconnected and then reconnected, but the same thing happened after about 7-10 minutes.

This is a continuous problem and I have spent hours reconnecting. Sometimes I will be lucky and I will be able to use the internet for up to an hour before it cuts out, but other times when I am forced to reconnect, it can often take several attempts to get the "receiving data" figure to start rising, and until it does, I cannot access the web at all.

I called my ISP, and told them of the problem. They have said there is no problems with their servers and that the signal is very strong in my area. They got me to perform a manual connection to their network on the modem's software, but this has solved nothing.

A short while ago, after I lost connectivity, but before disconnecting and reconnecting, I did this:

Start>Control Panel>Network & Internet>Network & Sharing Center, to bring up my connection to the 3 network. I clicked view status and could see that there was a problem and several errors were showing up as being present on the receiving end of my connection. I hit diagnose and windows came back with "Cannot communicate with DNS Server (4.2.2.3)"

Here is a screenshot of what I saw http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj47/persephonepapillon_album/3.jpg

As of right now, I have been connected for 59 minutes and counting, but I am expecting my connection to fail at any moment.

Any help would be awesome. Thank you.

When this is working normally, then again when it fails, please do the following diagnostic and post the results here. I want to see what changes.

    Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous command output!

    IPCONFIG /ALL

    PING <computer_IP_address>

    PING <default_gateway_address>

    PING <dns_servers>

    PING 206.190.60.37

    PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.
