Ok, here we go again.

I have a HP 5350 Laptop. 850 pIII 20 gb 384ram blaa blaa blaa

I recently reformated and installed win98 taking off winME. Everything went smooth, I had sound, figured out how to get the video drivers off my scratched (unuseable) hp recovery cd. Looked like job well done:) Well now my PCI Communication Device/Multimedia Audio Device have no drivers that I can find. Hp recovery cd said wouldn't work with win98. Couldn't find them on the win98 cd either. Ohh, also in device manager, along with the two devices above, there is a new Unknown Device. Extended way of saying "no sound".

Thank you in advance, and on a side bar, just wanna let you know this site kicks a@#! The response is ALWAYS fast and accurate (unlike my typing/spelling)

I went to that site and downloaded Windows 98 ESS Audio/Modem driver for Hp Pavilion n5350. Nothing happened after install. What other information would you like. Is there a way to get back the information in you start menu. i.e. start>Programs>Accesories>Sysyem Tools>System Information. I deleted System Information and cant find it. Is there a "run command" for it?

Was that the correct Model? I did a search for your model# at HP and that's what I came up with. Several Choices. Which one is your HP please? The Notebook? I was trying to ascertain what you have and see if we coud get you some drivers.

You can go to Control Panel>add REmove Programs>windows Setup tab and reinstall most of the extras you removed from the start menu.

HP's generally have the cabs on the hard drive and so you won't need an install disk.

I am not versed in Laptops. I will have to leave the dettails of your sound card to someone more adept. Good luck. Please post the information requested.

Oh yeah, I wanted to know if all this would have anything to do with the computers freezing problem. With 384ram and PIII 850 I thought it would FLY not poke.

Here's your Page at HP

Be sure that if you find a driver that it is for your Operating System Don't trade off. I think there may be an audio driver here.

At any rate, HP's are bears. I have one.

I am puzzled by such an old Bios. Could be a mistake. Has to be??? 1992??

You have Windows98 first edition. not Second. So be sure to use the correct drivers if you find them.

Here's your Product Specs page at HP
http://www.hp.com/notebooks/us/eng/products/omnibook_xe3/omnibook_xe3_specifications.htm
Be sure this is your computer before you do anything.

I think you may need help from someone more technically inclined. Good Luck. Hope you get it resolved.
