Lost data

I had to run my recovery disk on my Windows XP Media Center 2005 system. Although it said I wouldn't lose any data nor files, I did. But only under my profile. None of the profiles show up at start up but the Documents folders for each profile show up under Documents and Settings. The kids' data is all there, but all of mine if gone; Favorites, Wedding Photos, My Music, etc. I am looking for a way to recover all this. Any suggestions? After a 4 week strike I have no money to buy software so I need a good one that's free.

For starters; Stop Using your computer is the MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO.
do you have access to another one to use until you try and recover your files?
I can relate on the money issue I just got one days notice that there is no work for a while Grrrr :(
File recovery is tedious and requires lots of patience.
Free file recovery programs are hard to find that actually work.
Most of the ones you see online that appear to be free are simply trials and will not actually recover the files for you unless you buy the program :(
here is the search I did;

>>>Does ANYONE HERE at techguy have any good suggestions for Free recovery software ???<<<
Most Important thing... backup any and all files from now on to CD-DVD
