Hello,

I'm trying to help my dad fix up his pc.. It's almost unusable due to all the popups and it takes a long time to open a window. Could someone please help me help him?

From reading some other posts I'm assuming I have to download Hijack This and show you the log, which I've done and will paste here. I'm really not all that experienced with this stuff, so please be kind!

Thank you so much in advance...

Welcome to TSG :)

You have a lot going on in that log

Please download and run the following programs:

AD-AWARE

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
and download Ad-Aware SE Personal

Install the program and launch it.

First, in the bottom right-hand corner of the main window click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

Then, in the main window: Click Start and under Select a scan Mode tick Perform full system scan.

Then, deselect Search for negligible risk entries.

To start the scan, click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and then click Next)

Reboot

SPYBOT SEARCH & DESTROY
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/

Open Spybot Search & Destroy
Click online, Search for updates, Download all available updates. Close all Browser windows, Click ''Check for Problems''. Anything that needs to be fixed it will show in red and have a green check in the box to the left. Click ''Fix Selected Problems'', Then restart your computer.

Reboot again, please post another Hijack This log

Well.... I ran AdAware like you said.. Then cleaned out his Temp. Internet Files through Disk Cleanup under Accessories because he had 500MB of stuff in there and that folder took longest to scan. Then rebooted and ran Spybot, Spybot couldn't remove one of the items it found because it was in use (I'm drawing a blank but it might have been wwwcoolsearch?) asked if I wanted it to scan again at startup and I said yes and rebooted. Again it couldn't remove the one item. I also noticed through these bootups I got error messages that Norton AV couldn't run email scanning..but it also wouldn't load Norton Systemworks at startup like it usually did. SO I ran Hijack This again and saved the log, tried to open an Internet Explorer window to come here and post, only to find it won't connect to the internet. Rebooted, turned the cable modem off and on, etc., and still will not connet. I think I really boned it all up.....my poor dad will go crazy without internet access. I saved the log to a floppy and figured I'd post it from my home computer which is where I'm at right now.

So here's the log file. I really really hope this is something that can be fixed!

Thanks so much again...

Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall any of these that are there:

EbatesMoeMoneyMaker
CashBack or CashBack by Bargain Buddy
NaviSearch
VBouncer or VirtualBouncer
Winad Client
BullsEye Network
Web Offer
MyDailyHoroscope

Restart your computer after each uninstall.

Launch the application, and click the "I know what I'm doing" checkbox.

Check all instances of cdlsp.dll (and nothing else) , and move them to the "Remove" pane.
Then click Finish.

Run Hijack This again and put a check by these. Close ALL windows except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Restart to safe mode.

How to start your computer in safe mode

First in safe mode click on My Computer then click Tools > Folder Options. In Folder options click on the View tab. Under Files and Folders tick "Show hidden files and folders" then uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files (recommended)". Now click "Like current folder" then "Apply" and "OK"

Now find and delete these files:

C:\WINNT\dhbrwsr.exe
C:\WINNT\DHUpdt.exe
c:\winnt\system32\cdlsp.dll
C:\WINNT\System32\dhcpmon.exe
C:\WINNT\System32\sgmqzos.exe
sqltok.exe
mriilshr.exe

Delete these folders:

C:\Program Files\VBouncer
C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker
C:\Program Files\CashBack
C:\Program Files\NaviSearch
C:\Program Files\AutoUpdate
C:\Program Files\Winad Client
C:\Program Files\BullsEye Network
C:\Program Files\MyDailyHoroscope

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box. The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

After you do all that do this:

Click Here and download the VX2Finder.exe tool. Click on the VX2Finder.exe and then click on the Click to Find VX2.Betterinternet button. It will display the files, the Guardian Key and User Agent string. Now click the Make Log button. It will open the log in notepad. Copy and paste that log here and wait for further instructions.

Ok.. I'm finally back from his house (man I really hope I can restore his access to the internet after all this) and did everything you said...but there were files/folders you wanted me to delete that weren't there: dhbrwsr.exe, sgmqzos.exe, sqltok.exe, mriilshr.exe and folders: VBouncer, Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker, CashBack, AutoUpdate, BullsEye Network, MyDailyHoroscope, Web Offer. I even used Find Files or Folders but couldn't find them through that either.

I really hope that's not a bad thing..

Here's the log file for the VX2Finder.exe tool:

Log for VX2.BetterInternet File Finder (msg126)

Files Found---

Additional Files---

Keys Under Notify---
crypt32chain
cryptnet
cscdll
sclgntfy
SensLogn

Guardian Key--- is called:

User Agent String---

Thanks again... Hope you are getting to enjoy some candy this Halloween!

Run VX2Finder again and click on the Find VX2.Betterinternet button. It will display the entries as before.

Click on the User Agent button and it will delete the user agent string.

Restart the computer.

Go to the link below and download WinsockFix:

http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html

Run it and see if that restores the connection.

Hello flrman1,

I'm sorry it takes so long for me to reply - I don't live near my dad so it's not too easy to go back and forth. He's about 30-40 mins from me..

Ok, I did that Find VX2 thing and restarted, then did that WinsockFix - no go. Still won't connect. Any other clues?

I'm sorry to be such a pest....

Thank you again!
