    Gentlemen,

I am building a low budget PC for a friend of mine. He would like the system for a couple of music mixing programs and to play a few lower end games. Here is what I put together from NewEgg. Let me know what you think.

For the graphics card, I have an old PNY GF4-4400 w/64MB that I can give him. Do you think this would be a good barebones system for him? Any problems that you might see?

There's a combo deal on the motherboard where you get a free Rosewill case w/400W PS.. Since it's not a high end system, and rosewill is generally decent in quality, you might just give it a shot despite the rosewill PS.. It's not like he's running a 6800GT, or anything that would require alot of power..

Bring up the link on the motherboard and browse 1/4 down the page. :)

You can also expect at least a 25% overclock on that, if you want.. Just up the bus to 250 instead of 200. :) The only problem you might run into is that the old vid card may not like it, if it doesn't just reset the bios..

Thanks for pointing that out. Unfortunately that case looks pretty flimsy and I think that the PSU might give me too many problems. Plus, my friend likes the black. I think I will stick with what I picked.

I like it ;) the gfx card may give you some trouble, big maybe, I've run into newer stuff not behaving with older stuff, but its worth a try, if nothing else you can get a 9800pro or 6600gt for $150, that would definately let you play some games then, and yeah keep the case I bought one for my daughter, NOT bad at all for that price, and Antec is way better than rosewill, any day of the week IMO.

I use the geil ram in my machine, not the budget but the geil ultra and have never had any probs. As far as the hard drive I dont like maxtors I find them noisy, I prefer the seagate barracuda.. But looks a good set up.
Just one other thing, if its the first time you have set up sata be sure to get the drivers off the mobo disk and on to floppy, if you have done it b4 no prob, just a thought.

Ran into a slight problem with the machine. I seems that when the screen saver kicks in, the machine freezes, locks up solid. I tried disabling the screen saver but after about 10-15 minutes of idle time, I get the same mouse freeze. And thoughts on this? Could it be my graphics card on this one?
