I have looked through all the lsass.exe postings back to 2003 and cannot find an answer to this question. In Windows Task Manager lsass.exe is incrementing I/O Reads and I/O Writes by 3 every second even when I have no applications running. Is this normal activity? It seems not to be connected with disk activity as the HDD light on my computer unit is not flashing at all.

dlbabmon.exe is also incrementing I/O Reads by 1 about about every 2 seconds.
csrss.exe is incrementing I/O Reads every so often and then by large amounts.

I have a problem that recently something has started to generate inputs to the internet at the same rate that lsass.exe is incrementing. If I disconnect the internet, lsass.exe continues to increment.

I have checked that lsass.exe is in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32.
It is also present in C:\I386, C:\ServicePackFiles\I386, C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DLLCACHE and nowhere else.

I am not getting slow running and have not had an lsass.exe error. This implies that the Sasser worm is not causing the problem. Ad-Aware, Spybot, Trend Micro Housecall, Norton Antivirus, etc find nothing other than harmless cookies.

Here is a HijackThis log taken a minute ago:
