    Hello,
    i'm running xp pro, with service pack 2.
    my problem is this;

    on boot up the sequence stops just before the windows log on, and hangs with just the cursor showing. i tried to boot in safe mode and i get a black screen with sys messages, then it just reboots and gets to before the log on again.
    the same happens whatever option i choose.if i choose last known good configuration, i get an error message "lsass.exe - the requested operation was unsuccessful".

    i have tried to reinstall windows but the setup cannot find any hard discs.

    i have removed the hard drive and checked it via another computer. no virus or anything strange found. on the original pc i had anti virus, firewall etc and kept it in good order with bi weekly checks.

    is there anything i can try other than getting the data off the disc and reformatting?
    i've read tons of forum stuff about this but no one has the exact same problem.

    thanks in advance

    Clive
