DVK01:

I read an article earlier today that warned that a Microsoft employee mistakenly released a pre-release version of the WMF patch, and for users NOT to install it, and that the final patch will be released next Tuesday.

This is the text from that message:

An early version of a security fix for a Windows flaw that is being used as a conduit for cyberattacks was prematurely posted online by a Microsoft employee.

"It really was an inadvertent thing that happened," Fry Wilson said. "We have the security update on a fast track...(and) somebody accidentally posted a prerelease version on a community site. It has been taken down, and we don't recommend customers use it--it is not the version that we will be releasing on Tuesday."

This isn't a community site though, this is MS's site.

I keep Windows Updates turned off and check for updates manually, so I haven't done a scan there in about a week.

A much more detailed article about that WMF patch is located here.

I downloaded it as well. Does anyone know if it can be uninstalled? Should everyone just keep it in spite of it's prematurity??
