HI MY MACBOOK AIR IS HAVING ANNOYING ISSUES SUCH AS
-loud fan
-not working unless plugged in
-specific keys not working
-spinning beach ball

I have done research and many say an SMC reset should fix all these problems but I am unable to do that as I require to use the shift and power key and they do not work. Please help or do I need to toss this away.

Hello, and welcome to TSG!

My opinion is that
- loud fan = dirty or failing component
- not working unless plugged it = bad battery
- specific keys not working = again, dirty board or failing components
-spinning beach ball = (it's possessed) JK...;)

Depending on how old your system is, it might have seen better days. If you're unable to do an SMC and PRAM reset because of keyboard problems, you might consider it taking to a local PC shop.
