I'm using Microsoft Word 2000 and have created a mail merge document. The document consists of one page and 100 sections, each section contains different information. My question is, can create a hyperlink to a specific section? I don't want to use a bookmark because then I would have to create 100 different bookmarks.

Can you re-run the mail merge?
I may then be able to come up with a solution for you.

Can you send me your files? Is that possible? I hate to set up files as samples to see if it will work. YOu can make a copy of your data source and delete all but 2 or 3 records first. [email protected]

Okay. I tried what I wanted, but it looks like merging the document wipes all bookmarks, period.

    Sorry I can't help...

    FIGURED IT OUT!!

Thanks to my best friend and coder extraordinaire, Suat, we've got something that'll work cool.

In your mail merge main doc, BEFORE merging, select the Company name field (this IS what you want to link to, right?), and format it as style Heading 1. Make the format look however you want, then choose Heading 1 from the dropdown again. It'll ask if you want to update the style--click the button that says "Sure! Why not?"

    Do your merge.

At top of merge doc, hit Ctrl+Enter for page break.
    Ctrl+home
    Insert-Index/tables, Table of Contents. OK.

    done!

Thanks, that works great. Here is another question, is there a way to create a hyperlink in html to a particular section or heading?

What do you mean, in HTML? Are you programming HTML? Or are you asking how to do something in Word?

I have a web page with the company names on it and I am trying to create a hyperlink for each company so that it goes to the correct section in my word document.

When I try to do that the link always goes to the top of the page, not to the actual bookmark.

    Like I said:

I don't think Heading bookmarks are seen by HTML...

Even when I use a regular bookmark it doesn't work. I guess it just is not possible.
