I can't install the video drivers for a new PC that I have built.
    System Specs:
ASUS A7S333 motherboard (SIS 745 chipset)
    Crucial PC 2100 128MB RAM
    430 Watt Power Supply
    WD 20GB HDD
    Athlon XP 1700+ CPU
Ati Radeon 9000 Pro video card

Running Win 98SE, but I have the option of switching to Win2K.

When I try to install the video drivers, the dreaded Blue Screen of Death!! A fatal exception 06 has occurred at 0000:00000017.

    Everything else works fine.

In the manual for the Ati card, they warn that a special GART driver must be installed first. I did this and it seemed to be installed correctly.

I thought it might be the RAM, so I did a full RAM test using Memtest86. No problems there.

I have looked all over the Internet for a solution, but can't seem to find anything. I have called ASUS, but I am waiting for a call back. Is there anything I can do? I was thinking of installing Win2K to see if this is a problem with 98SE. I am also going to use another video card to see if that will install. I thought that the AGP slot might be bad. So that will be a further test.

But, if the AGP slot works, then what else can it be?

Thanx for your help. Sorry for the long message, but I needed to give all info.

I would check the asus web site for bios upgrades for your system or an faq or troubleshooting section, and also check ATI for updated drivers or troubleshooting info. This kind of conflict between certain boards and certain video cards or video drivers is pretty common

Check for nthe bios update also check ATI website for updated drivers. If you are going to switch to a different operating system switch to XP not Win2k. Does it say that your videocard is supported my Win 98SE?

    There are Vgart drivers on the Asus site;

You will have to select VGA from drop down at the left then type Gart, then select files.

There are 22 different files make sure you get the right one.
These are drivers for your AGP port, if you check your mother board manual it should mention loading the driver before loading video card driver.
