I know this is more or less a tip but figure it might do best here. It is simple really. If you run avg you will notice that it has advanced settings. If you do not know how to get here, you simply double click on the avg icon in your system tray, then click on tools>advanced settings. In the left pane, click on the resident shield dropdown then click advanced settings in the left pane. Here you can see a radio button is checked that says scan infectible files. Well...why would you want to do that as a nasty can be in anything? There is a simple fix here, just click the scan all files radio button. Then click ok and you can close the avg window.

Now, your antivirus scanner will monitor all files going through the system, not just infectible ones.(y)

Doing this will probably slow AVG scans down more than they are already. On my mom's machine, I'm seeing an average of 3 hr scan times with between 950,000+ - 1.2 million objects being scanned. This is with the default settings of scanning only infectible files.

    Peace...

Not true, it is for the active sheild NOT the scanner. And wouldnt you rather have it make sure NOTHING is infected than those by beleive are "infectible" are clean? I use it under that setting and have no slowdowns.
