making a server

    hi and thanks for looking,

    i have computer not too old, which i want to set up as a server at home to connect it to my home network and share files off it and to have dvd drives which i can access over the network, with my 4 laptops, how do i do this? i have been told to use linux by my freind so??

    First off, you can't write remotely using standard networking to DVD drives. If you're strictly talking about reading, that's not a problem.

    XP-Pro would work fine for this application, there's really no need to use Linux for something this simple.
