Hello all. My internet explore has shut down displaying an error in the wscmp.dll file. I did an online search and have found that this is a sign of malicious files. I also keep recieving a message stating that...

"This system is shutting down. Please save all work in progress and log off. Any unsaved changes will be lost. This shutdown was initiated by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM."

It has a :60 timer and shuts down after the time has elapsed. I am not sure if the two are related.

I have tried to run the latest malware fix tool from Microsoft, but the tool shuts down on the same file everytime and the scan is not completed. This occurs even in Safe Mode.

Also, winupdate.exe and ieupdates.exe encounter an error when windows starts. Upon research I have found these are bad .exe files and I would very much like to get rid of them. Any help on any of these problems would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Please read all these instructions very carefully before starting the fix

    first

    Download LSPfix here: http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm
and now run the LSPFIX application. You will see a list of files in the left hand pane and possibly some in the right hand pane. Tick the"I know what i'm doing" box & select any instances of rsvp322.dll that are in the left hand keep pane and move them to the right hand remove pane, DO NOT MOVE ANY OTHER FILES, press finish and the program will do anything necessary

    reboot &

Step 1. Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix or SDfix and make sure you are disconnected from the net before starting any of these programs

    • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before performing a scan. They can interfere with ComboFix or SDfix and remove some of their embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".
    • Click on this link to see a list of programs that should be disabled. The list is not all inclusive. If yours is not listed and you don't know how to disable it, please ask.
    • Remember to re enable the protection again afterwards before connecting to the net

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
    • Choose your usual account.
    • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.cmd to start the script.
    • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
    • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
    • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
    • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
    • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

    then when it has rebooted

Delete any existing version of ComboFix you have sitting on your desktop

Download ComboFix from Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, this is a new version that I need you to download. It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**
    --------------------------------------------------------------------

Close any open browsers and make sure you are disconnected from the net. Unplug the cable if need be before running combofix.
    • WARNING: IF you have not already done so Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet when it starts
    • Please do not re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    • If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connection.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review

****Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall or freeze ****

Thanks you very much for responding. However, I am having issues with the SDFix. I have followed all the steps and ran SDFix in safe mode. Once the program comes to the step "Checking Files", it completes 75% of the scan and then shuts down several minutes after 75% has been scanned. No error message appears, I am just left with the black safe mode screen. Any idea what the issue could be?

Ok, I did the sdfix. I will be away from my computer for the rest of the day, but I will perform the combo fix first thing in the morning.

    Oh I doubt they have

    there are still loads left

download the attached CFScript.txt to your desktop

Close any open browsers and make sure you are disconnected from the net. Unplug the cable if need be before going any further

Then drag the CFScript.txt into the ComboFix.exe as shown in the screenshot below.

This will start ComboFix again. It may ask to reboot. Post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

Remember to reconnect to the net and enable any disabled antivirus etc BEFORE reconnecting

Note: these instructions and script were created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these instructions or use this script as it could damage the workings of your system.

at the end it will pop up an alert & ask you to send the zip file it will create

please follow those instructions and also

please go to http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/index.php?board=1.0 and upload these files so I can examine them and distribute them to antivirus companies.
Just press new topic, fill in the needed details and just give a link to your post here & then press the browse button and then navigate to & select the files on your computer, If there is more than 1 file then press the more attachments button for each extra file and browse and select etc and then when all the files are listed in the windows press send to upload the files ( do not post HJT logs there as they will not get dealt with)

    Files to submit:
the zip file on desktop created by combofix

That cleared quite a bit but it tells me that your antivirus isn't doing a good enough job

In fact it looks like you haven't even got a fuly installed antivirus

Did the malware attack Norton or did it expire & you didn't renew it so partially uninstalled it

this was what was detected amongst the files submitted

    next stage

    * Run Kaspersky online virus scan Kaspersky Online Scanner.

After the updates have downloaded, click on the "Scan Settings" button.
Choose the "Extended database" for the scan.
Under "Please select a target to scan", click "My Computer".
When the scan is finished, Save the results from the scan!

Note: You have to use Internet Explorer to do the online scan.

Post a new HiJackThis log along with the results from Kaspersky scan

Note: Kavscan is a scanner only & won't fix anything but will normally find the most infected files so it's report gives us a good place to work from

You must use IE for the scan to work

    UPDATE!!!!

My newly installed Norton Internet Security did some work for me today. I have attached the results of its scan and an updated HijachThis log is below. If I get a chance before you check this, I will also complete another Kaspersky Scan and post it.

save the notepad file to your desktop and name it CFScript.txt

Close any open browsers and make sure you are disconnected from the net. Unplug the cable if need be before going any further

Then drag the CFScript.txt into the ComboFix.exe as shown in the screenshot below.

This will start ComboFix again. It may ask to reboot. Post the contents of Combofix.txt in your next reply together with a new HijackThis log.

Remember to reconnect to the net and enable any disabled antivirus etc BEFORE reconnecting

Note: these instructions and script were created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these instructions or use this script as it could damage the workings of your system.

    then

    download Sunbelt Counterspy Free trial

Save the install file to desktop and double click it to install counterspy

Once it has installed, follow the set up wizard which will automatically start, allow it to update itself

It will take a few minutes to update to the latest definitions file versions

run a full scan & when it finishes a window will open with all items found

They should all be marked as quarantine or delete by default so scroll down & check that nothing you know to be good or want to keep is detected. Just in case of an error select Quarantine for everything rather than delete. Then just press the take action button & follow any prompts ( set anything you want to keep as ignore)

post back with it's report ( on the scan page, press view details & copy that report & paste it back here )
