Malware affecting my bank account

Hello to all,

This morning as I entered my username and password for my online bank account, I was greeted by a screen asking me for personal information and banking information. Some of the items asked for were my driver's license number, ssn, bank account number, atm card number including CV? number, mother's maiden name, etc. When I contacted my bank to find out if this was legitimate they told me that my computer was infected with a virus/malware and that I would have to back-up everything and reformat the hard drive. Is this correct? I've had Avira running on my computer and I ran a scan to see if it could solve the problem, but it didn't help. Any suggestions?????

Thank you.
