After running "msconfig" and clicking "startup," I have a question:

Which programs/etc. are absolutely necessary to have startup in Windows XP? I have so many things listed there I want to disable as much as I can.

You can quite safely switch off EVERYTHING and then just add the ones you really need. However the obvious ones to switch on are things like your anti-virus program, of firewall. Most can be left off and when you start the program which needs something which was in the start up, it will just run when needed.

Here are some pictures of my startup. As you can see, most things are off. But running are the following: ZoneAlarm, Nortion Anti-virus, Itunes, Teatime spyware eliminator, Activesynch (WCESCOMM), Webcam, Bluetooth, Hewlettpackard printer.
