I boot up mandrake and then i try to enter my password and login (not as root). It says my password is old and needs to be changed but how are you supposed to change it if you cant login?

check caps lock, reboot, etc if nothing then:
    1. log in as root
    2. Open console/terminal
    3. type 'su username' username being the one which you have forgotten the password for
    4. type 'passwd'
    5. enter new password.
