I just sent my main laptop - an Acer - into Siberia.

Cause: spilled some drink on the keyboard. I grabbed paper towel and wiped it off.

However, I was also depressing all the Function keys at the same time. When I try a bit later to type in text for a search, it is complete gibberish.

Keys are now mapped to do things like open a new window or just display a run of 3 characters. None perform any correct text display.

I try one of the 'fixes' to change the language of the keyboard to a different type of English. And reboot the laptop.

The issue is still there, but now I have a brand new problem. Even worse.

As the keyboard is not able to display the typed text correctly, I can't input the password to start it up. One or more keys is just adding incorrect text at that point.

I can't read the display to see which is wrong. And I have no way to input characters anyway.

Can I fix this without a factory reset?

[this is all being typed up and posted from my 2nd-best lappie]

Can you get access to a normal keyboard and plug it into a usb port.
That should give password access. Model of Acer Laptop please

Ah..... very good idea. Nearly 9pm here, so that would be quick task for the morning.

Also it might be an easier fix once you are in to add another keyboard layout and delete the old layout once you know the new one works Change keyboard layout
Will that still require a reboot before I can tell for sure?

And that will also take care of any of the hotkeys I managed to create?

I was just totally confused that nothing was consistent. A single character might open a web browser or turn Youtube on, or just show 3 letters in caps.

And thanks so much for your help. I was at a total loss, and I'm pretty ok at usually finding a solution with a couple of online searches. You assistance is very welcome and much appreciated!

In addition; it is an Acer Nitro 5 N17C1. I think I purchased it in Feb 2018.
.
Nothing fancy, it serviceable for my needs. Uses Windows 10, and I do tend to the store stuff I think is important on external drives. Still, I am kicking myself for making a really basic and pretty stupid mistake there.

You may need a new keyboard if the spillage has affected the typing.

must have been some moisture left there and overnight it evaporated!

Thanks to anyone to checked out the thread, went 'sheesh, *******!' and still left some advice. : )
