    My sound card has apparently died. Maybe a dumb question, but do I need to match new speakers to a new sound card? Also, how do I know what kind of sound card to buy? Thanks for any input here.

    Hi Merrymarry,
    no, you don't need to match your sound card with your speaker if your speaker have a normal 3.5mm connector, like your ipod earphone's connector :).

    to know what kind of sound card you would need;
    1. open your computer case and see if you have a pci slot available. most sound cards goes in your motherboard's PCI slot. if there are no PCI slots (very rare chance), you might need to buy a new mobo.
    this is how your PCI slots would look like --> http://www.hothardware.com/reviews/images/tualatin/pci_slot.jpg

    2. if your mobo has the slots, i would recommand you buy any Creative Soundblaster card.
