    Hi:

I've plugged this guy up to three different computers now, even my new one...and it doesn't show. Not in disk management, or anywhere...no signs of life.

Basically, I have to figure out any way I can get the info off of this thing, if there is a way.

Has anyone ran into the solution?

    Thanks for any help.

    Specs:

    Pentium 4
    Windows xP
    One Touch Family I USB

Have to start with the obvious...sorry...does it have a power on light that indicates the unit is on?

When you plug it in do you hear the "USB Tone" that indicates new hardware found?

Likewise, if you click on the "safely remove hardware" icon on the taskbar, is the device shown there?

Have you tried different USB cables?

Have you thought about exchanging it for a new one? :(

Well, it's obviously a hardware issue, I think the previous message pretty well covered the possibilities. :)

You mean you have to turn it on?

No really, a friend showed me how easy it was to break the case and plug it up just as a normal drive, I am going to buy a new external and transfer the info.

Maxtor has had a lot of bad press from this issue.
