mbr (master boot record) i think....

ok folks i think i screwed up my master boot record. i put it in the hardeware forum cuz i have no idea what it is. is it on my hdd or bios or what. if i messed it up installing linux how can i fix it so i can boot xp without getting boot disk error message.

To repair the mbr, just boot with your xp CD. Choose repair from the first menu. Once in the recovery console, type "fixmbr" without quotes and hit enter. You will get a warning that the system has a non-standard mbr and you might loose data. Acknowledge and continue. You now have a new mbr.
