How do I add an item to the Trusted Items area of McAfee Antivirus Plus? I click on Navigation => Quarantine And Trusted Items => Trusted Items. The Trusted Items field opens but I see no method to add an item to it. Running Windows 7. Thanks.

Follow these directions to add any item to mcafee's trusted list.

    1) Open the Trusted Lists pane.
    2) Under Common Tasks, click Home.
    3) On the SecurityCenter Home pane, click Computer &
    Files.
    4) In the Computer & Files information area, click
    Configure.
    5) On the Computer & Files Configuration pane, ensure
that virus protection is enabled, and click Advanced.
    6) Click Trusted Lists in the Virus Protection pane.
    7) Select one of the following trusted list types:
    • Program SystemGuards
    • Windows SystemGuards
    • Browser SystemGuards
    • Trusted Programs
    • Trusted Buffer Overflows
    8) Under I want to, do one of the following:
    • To allow the detected item to make changes to the
Windows registry or critical system files on your computer
      without notifying you, click Trust.
    • To block the detected item from making changes to the
Windows registry or critical system files on your computer
      without notifying you, click Block.
    • To remove the detected item from the trusted lists, click
      Remove.

Thank you mpeet611. Sadly, McAfee Antivirus Plus has no Trusted Lists screen, rather it has a Trusted Items screen. There is no Common Tasks selection. No SecurityCenter Home pane either. Perhaps the instructions you located were for an earlier version of the product or maybe a different product?

At any rate, thanks for trying to help me. :)

I believe you have to release it from quarantine, allow it to be detected again and on the detection screen there will be an option to add it to the trusted list.

Thanks cookiegal. I'll keep that in mind next time my exe file is quarantined. Curiously, McAfee Antivirus Plus is not consistent when it scans my computer in that sometimes it quarantines the exe file while most of the time it does not. Appreciate the advice.

You're welcome. A lot depends on the nature of the program the file is related to. Sometimes executables get detected and then that might be fixed as a false positive and then it will get detected again because of a future definition file probably based on heuristics which means it's behaviour-related and not due to it being known malware.
