Your computer is still using Internet Explorer 5.5. You should upgrade to 5.5 SP2 and then to 6.0 SP1. Windows ME won't allow you to upgrade straight from 5.5 to 6.0 SP1 because of a "bug" in that operating system.

After you've made the upgrade, you should go to the Windows Updates site and install all the critical updates that are available.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sygate firewall is installed and running in the background, but I don't see any antivirus program installed and running in the background.

If that's the case, go to the "Anti-Virus" section at www.majorgeeks.com and download and install Grisoft AVG Free Edition 7x. It's free.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are several programs running in the background that don't need to be, but we can deal with that later and get the list trimmed down.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Who are you using for your Internet Service Provider(ISP)?

Hi, sorry about the delay, but for some reason my com simply lost my internet connection! I dont know what happened. All of a sudden its back? Weird!

First off, I checked Windows Update, but there is no upgrade to IE 5.5 SP2 there. Where can I find this upgrade?

And about my anti-virus, im now running Fix-It Utilities 6 anti-virus, so ive got that covered.

Also, My ISP is SBCGlobal

Thanks and sorry for the delay!

You can download and install Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2 from here.

Turn off or disable your antivirus program before starting the install. Once the install is complete and you've rebooted, go to the Windows Updates site and run a scan. It should bring up an entry so you can download and install Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1. If it doesn't, get back with us and we'll direct you elsewhere to get it.

Oops! I didn't notice the old version. Get the new version and direct it to install in C:\Program Files. You can then get rid of the old version.
