My sister-in-law stayed with us while i was away and used/downloaded alot on our computer. The CD RW drive won't work (copy pixs,..) and other problems. I did the cursuary Checks with Spy boot, ad-aware and a defrag. My next option was to restore to another time, but tried unsuccessfully several times (normal and safe mode),all the way back to the earliest the program would go ( Oct '04) and no luck. The response says that it is "unable to restore to this point and to try another one" . Getting serioulsy frustrated with the computer and my in-law. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. R

I did the scan as you mentioned and the computer seems virus free. I tried the D drive (CD) again and its the same message " Drive not accessible". Any other ideas to get it running again? THanks again for the help. The OS is ME. r

Have a look what it says in device manager about it .....

Windows 95/98/Me

You can open Device Manager by double-clicking on the System icon in Control Panel, and choosing the Device Manager tab. It is also accessible by right-clicking on My Computer, selecting Properties, and selecting the Device Manager tab.
