Would appreciate help with this problem

When a memory stick is plugged into my PC a message appears at bottom right of screen ‘there is a problem, scan drive’, after doing this the problem persists and the message repeats. This happens with several sticks all of which work in another PC. Sometimes the drive opens, sometimes it doesn’t appear in File explorer, occasionally it causes the PC to ‘hang’,

It would appear you have a problem with the USB ports on the computer OR a problem with the flash pen drives albeit they work on another computer

Does a blank formatted flash en drive work and can it be seen and written to.

Are you connecting directly to the usb port OR via a USB hub.
If a hub try directly to a usb port on the tower.

A suggestion was made that you upgrade the ram from 4GB
It maybe that you will be unable to do so as the motherboard takes DDR2 ram and it appears the max in the two slots is 2GB in each.

In all honesty that processor is
Intel Core2 Duo Processor E8400 6M Cache 3.00 GHz 1333 MHz FSB Product Specifications
of 2008 vintage.

The board is of similar age as indicated by the DDR2 ram
P5KPL-AM EPU - Support (asus.com)

and you are using the integrated graphics, integrated in the chipset on the board and therefore using your ram to run those graphics.

In short, whilst as you know it will run 10, it will never run 10 smoothly and satisfactorily.

Mainly because as previously mentioned on your other topic you have limited ram - 4GB

Cheers
We can still attempt to solve the problem of the usb issue, if you wish, until you do replace the system

Those are your first steps
