I am upgrading memory on a IBM netvista PC the specs say it should be able to be upgraded to 512 mb but when i put a 256 mb pc 133 chip in the computer blacks out and wont reboot anyone had this problem and know how to remedy it?

Blacks out? You're not putting it in while its running are you? The computer needs to be unplugged from the power before plugging anything in. Also do you have a specific model number? Some newer PC133 are not compatible with older motherboards and don't work properly or at all. Another faactor to consider is if the computer has 4 slots for RAM and the max is 512MB, then the most you can put in is 128MB per slot ( x 4 = 512MB). You can also check the at a site like Crucial.com to see if you have the right ram for your PC. Of course the first step is as mentioned above; reseat the RAM an/or try another slot - the RAM also only goes in one way into the slot.
