I recently bought a 4gb micro memory card at the duty free in Singapore. I installed in my camera at the store took a picture and it worked well . Got home put it in a card reader and got a message "card not formatted". Decided to format the card. Format process started at the end got a message ,Windows unable to complete format" afterwards "the disk cannot be formatted" The card has never worked since.

It sounds as if you have an older card reader in your computer. These will often not recognise anything bigger than 1 1 gig card, which leads to the message you get. A new cardreader may well be the answer- try a USB type, but check with the shop it can handle cards of at least 4 GB. Most can, but its always best to find out.
If you want to try a format, stick it back in the camera, you will probably find it recognises and formats as a 4Gb. :)
