Just wondered what everybody here thought of Microsoft possibly buying Claria (formerly Gator). Slashdot has a story about the MS AntiSpyware program now listing Claria as "ignore" instead of delete or quarrantine. Personally, I'm a little worried!!

Unbelievable. I'm speechless. I will wait to see what Bill has to say before I trash it, but MS AntiSpyware may be gone for me!

I can't say that I'll trash MS AntiSpyware. As long as it gives me the option to change "Ignore" to "Remove", it still suits me. I've found things with MS' product that others have missed (and vice-versa), so I'm sure unless things drastically change it will remain in my arsenal.

Many people have been asking M$ to make the default setting for all detections to ignore rather than remove and allow the user to decide what should go
yes claria/gator is spyware BUT many users want to use it and even though we don't advise people to use gator/gmt/claria or whatecver it is called this week if a user has a program installed that depends on that software like certain P2P programs who will not work without it installed, Then the issue comes down to user choice

I and all other security people always advise uninstalling P2P that include adware BUT we cannot insist onj it and always warn the user taht removing rthe adware disableds the program so let the user decide

M$ are just responding to user requests to let the user decide should I delete or not as all the other antispyware programs do. They all flag the software and let you decide what to delete.

Many of us have asked M$ to do the same to set everything to be ignored and to allow the user to either have a single button saying select all or to do as now and select each individual one and fix as wanted: delete/quarantine/ignore

In my view taht is the correct way to go
